I am studying brain development, in particular how myelin, the protective coating that keeps our nerves healthy, forms and is maintained throughout life. We need to understand this because myelin is damaged and degenerates in many neurological conditions, such as cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis. This research will hopefully help us to develop therapies to repair or regenerate myelin in future!
I will be giving you a glimpse into life doing PhD research in Edinburgh over the next two days, so stay tuned! You can also follow my PhD journey @phdniamh
