ECAT associate directors

Our associate directors have a variety of roles to support the directors in the running of the programme

In alphabetical order

Professor David Argyle

ECAT Associate Director; William Dick Chair of Veterinary Clinical Studies; Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine

David Argyle has responsibility for appointing our ECAT vets and for their clinical mentorship during their time on the ECAT-V programme.  As an associate director, David will be invited to join recruitment panels and fellowship interview panels.

 

Professor Kenny Baillie

ECAT Associate Director, Professor of Experimental Medicine & Honorary Consultant (Intensive Care Unit, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh)

Kenny was part of the very first ECAT cohort and joined the programme in 2008.  He is now Professor of Experimental Medicine at the Roslin Institute.  As an associate director, Kenny will be invited to join recruitment panels and fellowship interview panels.  Kenny is also the nominated ECAT representative on a number of ECAT fellows' PhD review panels.

 

Professor Charlie Gourley

ECAT Associate Director, Chair of Medical Oncology (University of Edinburgh) & Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology (Western General Hospital). Clinical Director, CRUK Edinburgh Centre & Director, Nicola Murray Centre for Ovarian Cancer Research.

Charlie is responsible for the recruitment of our ECAT-linked CRUK research fellows and their continued support during the programme.  As an associate director, Charlie will be invited to join recruitment panels and fellowship interview panels.  Charlie is also the nominated ECAT representative on the ECAT-linked CRUK fellows' PhD review panels.

 

Professor Jeremy Hughes

ECAT Associate Director, Professor of Experimental Nephrology (University of Edinburgh) & Honorary Consultant Nephrologist (Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh)

Jeremy works closely with ATRIUM (Academic Training in Research In Undergraduate Medicine) and promotes research to medical undergraduates at the University.  Find out more about ATRIUM here.  As an associate director, Jeremy will be invited to join recruitment panels and fellowship interview panels.  Jeremy is also the nominated ECAT representative on a number of ECAT fellows' PhD review panels.

 

Professor Richard Mellanby

ECAT Associate Director & Personal Chair of Comparative Medicine

Richard works closely with David Argyle in supporting our ECAT vets.  As an associate director, Richard will be invited to join recruitment panels and fellowship interview panels.  Richard is also the nominated ECAT-V representative on a number of ECAT fellows' PhD review panels.

 

Professor Bill Reid

ECAT Associate Director & Professorial Fellow / Academic Adviser (College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine)

Contact details

Bill’s role is one of support and mentorship for our clinical medical postdoctoral fellows who are moving towards intermediate fellowships and CCT.

 

Professor Rustam Al-Shahi Salman

ECAT Associate Director & Professor of Clinical Neurology

Rustam is the Edinburgh INSPIRE lead.  This five-year, UK-wide scheme is coordinated by the Academy of Medical Sciences and supported by Wellcome.  As an associate director, Rustam will be invited to join recruitment panels and fellowship interview panels.  Rustam is also the nominated ECAT representative on a number of ECAT fellows' PhD review panels.

 

Professor Sarah Stock

ECAT Associate Director, Wellcome Trust Clinical Career Development Fellow, Reader and Honorary Consultant in Maternal and Fetal Medicine

Contact details

Sarah is the newest member of the ECAT team.  Together with Bryan Conway, Sarah is Programme Director of the South East Academic Foundation Programme.  Sarah will join us on interview and fellowship panels.  She is also the nominated ECAT representative on a number of ECAT fellows' PhD review panels.
