Biographies of team members.
The RESTORE team
The RESTORE project is a collaborative project that brings together a team from the University of Edinburgh, the University of Glasgow, and the University of St Andrews.
Our team includes academics and professional service staff who work in areas relating to research culture, promotion of integrity, and the management of misconduct. Many of the team directly contribute to policy development and support the implementation of research integrity management.
Thamarai Schneiders
Project Lead
Thamarai is currently Reader in Molecular Bacteriology in the School of Regeneration and Repair and Associate Dean for Research Integrity and Culture within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. Thamarai works on Antimicrobial resistance in Gram-negative bacteria and is committed to research reproducibility, open research and communication. In her role as Associate Dean she is committed to the development and implementation of research integrity policies and training. Her work in this area led to the conception and leadership of the RESTORE project

Sam Oakley
Project Co-Lead
Sam leads a team that manages research security compliance and Research Integrity training, communications, Research Misconduct process and case management. She is also experienced in working across a range of research governance areas including data management, open research, and the REF. She originally completed a degree in Ancient History and Archaeology, followed by a PhD in Egyptology.

Richard Greenham
Project Co-Lead
Richard obtained a BSc in 'Biochemistry with medical biochemistry' and subsequent Wellcome-funded PhD (in multidisciplinary structural molecular biology) from the University of Leeds. He has worked on national research and research career policy issues at the Academy of Medical Sciences in London, in administrative roles in the NHS, undertaken a year long student placement in pharmaceutical R&D, and completed half the training to be a secondary school science teacher. Over the last 10 years at St Andrews, Richard built and leads a team that works on research policy issues that impact across the whole institution to support a culture of good research practice.

Julia works on the function and therapeutic potentials of host defence peptides and am associate dean of research culture for the college. Responsible research is a key aspect of research culture and understanding what support is required for the wellbeing of those involved in the restoration of integrity is essential for improvement of the process.

Jane is Professor of Quantitative Modelling at the University of Edinburgh. She received a BA in Mathematics (University of York), a MSc in Mathematics (Lehigh University) and a PhD in Computer Science (University of Edinburgh). She joined the academic staff in the University of Edinburgh in 1995. Her principal research interests are in formal approaches to modelling the dynamic behaviour of discrete event systems, particularly from the perspective of performance and resource use. Her current role as Dean of Research Culture and REF in the College of Science and Engineering brings responsibilities for research ethics and integrity as well as wider research culture issues.

Kim Moran-Jones

Kim provides strategic support for research governance (ethics, integrity, and culture) ensuring that researchers within the college can undertake their research in an environment which supports the highest levels of integrity and ethical consideration. She is also involved in college research strategy and REF.

Amanda McKenna
Project Co-Lead
Amanda is a member of the Research Governance and Integrity Team at the University of Glasgow. Having worked in research integrity specialising in misconduct for the past 10 year, she has experience in all different aspects of good research practice including what happens when things go wrong, how these situations can be addressed and how to help prevent these happening going forward. Amanda also helps manage the network of Good Research Practice Champions and Advisers who provide practical support for Researchers at school level, who have questions or need guidance on all aspects of Good Research Practice.

Sudeepa Abeysinghe

Sudeepa is a sociologist of health, focusing on contexts of risk, uncertainty, and crisis. This a strand of empirical research on research ethics processes (in particular in the field of health and disasters research), reflecting on the diversity cultures of research ethics. Sudeepa is the Assoc Dean Research (Ethics & Integrity), of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, at the University of Edinburgh from 2022-27. Anne Ploin
Project Researcher
Anne is a social scientist with specialisms in qualitative methods and the politics of knowledge. Anne is currently in post on the InFrame project as a Community Knowledge Analyst, providing research and facilitation capacity to Culture Catalyst Fund projects. They also co-lead, with Ros Attenborough, InFrame’s project-level evaluation using participative, culture- and power-sensitive methods. As RESTORE’s project researcher, Anne designed and conducted the qualitative empirical studies for the project, managed participant confidentiality, and remains a point of ongoing contact for participants.

Rowena Lamb

Rowena is the Head of Research Governance, Compliance and Risk in the Edinburgh Research Office. Her team works with researchers and internal and external stakeholders to enable the University and researchers to meet their commitments and responsibilities relating to research integrity and ethics, as well as regulatory and legal obligations, including export control regulations and Trusted Research related areas. Rowena has worked within the areas of research integrity, ethics and professional conduct across five research and professional organisations, and a firm believer in a people centred approach to processes.

Ciara Wilton
Project Manager
Ciara is the Project Manager for the RESTORE project. After completing a PhD, Ciara became an APM-accredited Project Manager at the Ministry of Defence and, in 2022, took the opportunity to combine her project management expertise with her background in academia, taking on the Project Manager role for a large Fellowship Programme at the University of Edinburgh. Ciara has managed and delivered a range of complex, multi-partner research projects and brings expertise in stakeholder management, strategic direction and decision making, and operational and risk management.

Niamh holds a degree in History and Scottish History from the University of Edinburgh, which informs her strong organisational and research skills.
