A self-directed but supported route, allowing clinicians to further develop knowledge, skills and professional competence in facilitating learning. Following completion of the Clinical Educator Programme, you can consolidate your learning and develop your educator role further through participation in the Clinical Education in Practice course. Running for 12 months, the course involves a process of writing a series of blogs in which you will explore your teaching and make sense of it through reflective writing, scholarship and discussion. While this is a self-directed activity, peer support is available through participation in collaborative study groups and CEP faculty provide additional support at an individual and group level. The reflective blogging exercise is designed to reflect Academy of Medical Educator (AoME) Professional Standards and it is specifically mapped to dimensions of the Advance HE (2023) framework. Once completed, Clinical Education in Practice should be admissible as evidence for training role recognition. In addition, it demonstrates academic attainment which is recognised by employers throughout the UK and beyond. What will I achieve through participation? Enrolment in Clinical Education in Practice provides opportunities to further develop knowledge, skills and professional competence in facilitating learning, whilst gaining accredited recognition to reflect proficiency in the educator role. More specifically, it provides: eligibility to apply for Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and/or membership of the Academy of Medical Educators. These entitle you to use the post-nominals AFHEA and MAcadMEd a certificate of completion endorsed by the University of Edinburgh eligibility to carry 20 SCQF credits at postgraduate level 11 towards the University of Edinburgh MSc in Clinical Education or the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP), via recognition of prior learning. Am I eligible for Clinical Education in Practice? Clinical Education in Practice is for healthcare professionals or academics who have a clinical education remit and a keen interest to develop this role. It is restricted to those with responsibility for teaching students or trainees in either the University of Edinburgh Medical School, the Southeast Scotland Deanery or specific NHS Boards (Ayrshire & Arran, Dumfries & Galloway, Forth Valley, Lanarkshire, NSS/BTS, State Hospital, Highland, Western Isles).
