Clinical Skills Centre

The Clinical Skills Centre is a versatile area suited to a variety of different types of educational and informal practice. 

The Centre is used predominately by undergraduate medical students but we also host many multi-professional courses. Our flexible centre can be adapted to suit whatever the clinical or educational need.

Facilities available include:

  • Four-bedded simulated ward complete with interactive whiteboard.
  • Four-bedded simulated assessment area complete with interactive whiteboard.
  • Simulation room with SimMan ® high fidelity manikin. This adaptable room can be configured into many different types of clinical area and comes with drug cupboard and surgical scrub sink.

  • Immersive simulation room with three walls of screens that can display images or videos to create any simulated environment.
  • Two large teaching rooms with removable partition to make one large space with an interactive whiteboard. These rooms have various part task trainers that allow for the introduction and practice of clinical and resuscitation skills in a safe environment.
  • Debrief room with seating and interactive whiteboard, suitable for debrief of teaching, communication skills teaching and clinical meetings.
  • Mid-fidelity manikins with clinical monitoring, capacity for defibrillation, and feedback devices for resuscitation skills (iSimulate technology). These can be moved to any room that has beds/trolleys (typically the ward and simulated assessment area).
  • Harvey ® cardiopulmonary trainer. This portable manikin realistically simulates many cardiac diseases.
  • Video recording throughout the centre.

The Clinical Skills Centre is open Monday - Friday 9am- 5pm and is situated on the first floor of Chancellor’s Building at Edinburgh BioQuarter.
