When you submit this form, you will receive an automated email from us with further instructions to attach the following documents:

1.  Your academic transcripts.

2.  A signed and dated reference from your Dean or Head of school on university headed paper, commenting on your good standing and clinical potential.

3.  A PDF or JPEG copy of your passport.

The deadline for receipt of these documents, to ensure that you will be included in the allocation process, is 28 days from the date you submitted your application.

If you receive and subsequently accept an offer of a placement, the offer will remain conditional until you have provided the remaining documentation which will be requested from you approximately six months  before your placement date:

1. English proficiency certificate from the list and to the required standard, if from a non-majority English-speaking country.

2.  Up to date records of the four main immunisations, blood tests etc - a link will be sent from NHS Lothian Occupational Health around six months before your placement,  for you to complete their questionnaire.

3.  Proof of indemnity/malpractice insurance to cover the period of your elective placement.

4.   If  your home country and current country of study (if different from home) are outside the UK/EU,  a criminal record check is required dated no more than six months before the beginning of your placement.

Around six months before the placement, you will also be sent a Disclosure Scotland application pack, as you are required to have a current Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) certificate to cover the duration of your placement.

Providing all of the above is in order, we will send a link to pay the matriculation fee, which is £400 for 2026 electives.
