Application guidelines

Please read these notes carefully.

Section 1 - your details

What is meant by 'fee status'?

All Scottish universities are required to determine fee status in accordance with regulations approved by the Scottish Parliament - the Education (Fees) (Scotland) Regulations 2011.

Your tuition fee status and the level of tuition fee that you pay is determined by your nationality and the country where you are ‘ordinarily resident’.

You can find further information on Education (Fees) (Scotland) Regulations 2011 here:

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ssi/2011/389/contents/made

Fee status categories

Like other UK universities, there are different levels of tuition fees for students whose status is home or overseas, and at Scottish universities, there are also different home fee levels for undergraduate study.

You can find further information on fee status and further applicant information regarding the academic session which you are applying for on the Uiversity's Tuition Fees website:

Tuition Fees website

What is meant by ‘Source of fees to be paid to University of Edinburgh if offer made’?

This is asking who has agreed to pay all or part of your tuition fees (and any additional programme costs) for your BMedSci honours degree programme.   Your options may be:

  • SAAS – (Student Awards Agency Scotland)
  • Self-funded research council funding
  • University scholarships and bursaries (NOTE: a sponsor is not a family member or friend who has agreed to pay your tuition fees).

See some examples below of legitimate sponsors:

  • Private sector employers
  • Public sector organisations
  • Government agencies
  • Charitable trusts
  • International government and agencies
  • Foundations
  • Not-for-profit organisations
  • Overseas institutions
