Strong October for MVM Professor Bhopal’s study was one of 24 research applications from the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine to receive grants during October, in what was a strong month for the college. New figures from ERI reveal the amount of awards granted to MVM in October has increased some 50 per cent from the quantity granted during the same period in 2009. The total awards value for this period was also an increase of 16 per cent on the value generated during October 2009. The College of Science and Engineering also performed well in October. It pulled in 30 research awards with a total value of more than £10 million. Successful applications included core-funding renewal for the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology, nanotubes for carbon capture and a selection of studentships. Increased application activity Application activity in the College of Humanities and Social Science had increased in October in comparison to the same period in 2009. Among the successful applications were projects on synthetic biology and the social sciences, the Hellenistic court, and women’s art.
