Image The Athena Swan charter is a framework which is used worldwide to support and transform gender equality within higher education and research. Established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine, the charter is now being used across the globe to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women. Our awards The College is active in implementing and promoting career development and a good working culture for all staff, both of which are central to the Athena SWAN charter mark. The College currently holds four Athena SWAN awards - for Edinburgh Medical School, the Roslin Institute, the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and Clinical Sciences. Our schools have active Athena SWAN teams working towards their next awards.
