Travel to your campus. Image Public transport Getting to and from the BioQuarter campus is easy with a variety of transportation options including excellent public transport links. There are over 600 buses a day travelling to the site, into the Lothians and other University sites including Central Area, the King's Buildings, Royal Edinburgh Hospital, and the Western General. A number of Lothian Buses services (7, 8, 18, 21, 24, 33, 38, 49) operate to and from the Royal Infirmary Hospital, which is on the campus. From the city centre, the 33 or 49 are usually the quickest and most convenient. First Bus service 95/X95 and Perryman's Buses services 51/52 stop at bus stops near the north entrance. The Sheriffhall (EH22 1FF) park and ride site has direct public transport access to BioQuarter. It is located on the A7 just north of the City By-pass/Sheriffhall junction near Danderhall and is served daily by Lothian Buses service 33 and 49. Park and Ride details Cycling Large numbers of staff and students cycle to BioQuarter each day using the city's on and off road cycle path network. Cycle lanes are provided on both sides of Dalkeith Road between Cameron Toll and BioQuarter, and an off-road cycle path connects BioQuarter with Craigmillar and the east of the city. Sheltered cycle parking is provided to the rear of Chancellor's Building and at the east of QMRI. Free Dr Bike sessions are run at BioQuarter for staff and students. At the sessions Dr Bike provides a free bicycle safety inspection and does their best to fix minor problems on the spot to any bikes brought along on the day. For problems that cannot be repaired on the spot, Dr Bike will give each bike an 'MOT' certificate to take away to a bike shop. Details of the Dr Bike timetable Motorcycling Motorcycle parking is available at the rear of Chancellor’s Building in a clearly designated area. Please do not park under the Chancellor’s Building canopy (the designated bicycle parking area) as this is a serious fire risk. City Car Club A City Car Club vehicle is based in the QMRI car park. Further information about this scheme is available on the Transport and Parking Office web site. City Car Club Parking Parking at BioQuarter is in very high demand and the University is supplied with a limited number of permits for staff to park within the car parks. Permits provide staff with access to the car parking facilities - they do not guarantee a space. It is not possible to provide every member of staff based at BioQuarter with a permit to park. Only annual permits are available and these cost £250. If you wish to apply for a permit you should be aware that the University operates a needs based permit allocation system to ensure that those with the greatest need to park are given priority. Applicants answer a series of questions to ascertain their need for a permit. The agreed criteria contain six principles. They are (in order of importance): Mobility Essential business use / Unsocial hours Equality and diversity Lack of suitable alternatives to the car Distance travelled from home to work / study Membership of Tripshare Points are allocated according to the answer provided. Based on the capacity of the car parks and the number of applicants, a points threshold is determined. Applicants with points at or above the threshold will be offered a permit. How to apply for a permit To use the system visit www.myed.ed.ac.uk and select 'login with EASE'. Enter your EASE password if you already have one. If you do not have an EASE password then select 'Need help registering with EASE?' Parking information from Transport and Parking Visitor parking There is very limited space for visitor parking. Please advise your visitors that if they need to park they should provide you with advance notice in order to be able to park in the Chancellor's Building or QMRI car parks using a "floating" permit, if available. Cars without permits cannot be accommodated in these car parks and therefore visitors will have no alternative but to use the Hospital's main visitor car parks, make use of the good Public Transport service or Taxi. Parking charges for public car parks A, B & C start at £1.30 for the first hour rising to £7 for over 6 hours. Pay at Pay Station before leaving.
