Find out about our activities in the community. The College runs activities throughout the year where you can meet our researchers, explore our research and discuss its impact on health and society. Events and activities vary from year to year, but there is also an annual programme of events, listed below. Public events Event Description Time of year Anatomical Museum tour Home to an impressive collection of historical and anatomical specimens. Open to the public on the last Saturday of each month from 10am to 4pm. Throughout the year University of Edinburgh Lab tours and events Visit 'behind the scenes' in a Cancer Research UK lab and ask researchers about their work and efforts towards beating cancer and disease. Throughout the year Brain Awareness Week Workshops run by Edinburgh Neuroscience to introduce Primary 7 pupils to the basic structure of the brain. March Edinburgh International Science Festival The College runs several events as part of the festival, with the aim to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to discover the world around them. April, May, July MRC Festival of Medical Research College units, centres and institutes funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) showcase and discuss their work through events and activities. June Royal Highland Show Activities, displays and information about the research, clinical and teaching work at the University of Edinburgh’s Easter Bush Campus. Run by The Roslin Institute and The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. June Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas CoDI drags academics out of their ivory towers to debate today’s burning issues and cutting edge research with audiences at the Stand Comedy Club. Part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. August Schools programmes Activity Description Time of year Science Insights Work experience programme for 5th year high school pupils providing a real insight into the work and life of research scientists. July Get Brainy workshops Workshop organised and run by Edinburgh Neuroscience and cover different neuroscience-related topics aimed at different age groups. Ongoing throughout the year Public lectures Lecture Description Time of year Inaugural lectures An important part of the College’s calendar, the inaugural lectures are a marking of a professor's academic pathway thus far – and their aims for the future. On average, we hold about six inaugural lectures a year. Ongoing throughout the year Edinburgh Medical Debate Edinburgh Medical School and Edinburgh Medical Students’ Council host an annual debate around topical issues in healthcare. The panels typically includes representatives of the student body and experts in the relevant field.
