Usher Institute Professor wins 2017 Chancellor's Rising Star Award

Professor Devi Sridhar has been recognised for the exceptional contribution she has made in the field of global health governance.

Professor Devi Sridhar is Personal Chair of Global Public Health at The Usher Institute of Population Health Sciences and Informatics.

She is Founding Director of the Global Health Governance Programme and holds a Wellcome Trust Investigator Award.

Palace dinner

Devi was selected for the award by the University and was presented with it by the Chancellor, HRH the Princess Royal, at a dinner at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on Tuesday 28 November 2017.

Teacher

Devi teaches MBChB students on the topic of global health as well as students in the MSc Public Health programme. She also supervises PhD projects within the Global Health Governance programme.

Author

Devi is the author of two books; "Governing Global Health: Who Runs the World and Why?" and "The Battle against Hunger: Choice, Circumstance and the World Bank". 

She has published her work in Nature, Science, the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet and the British Medical Journal.

Before Edinburgh

Devi holds an MPhil and a DPhil from the University of Oxford as well as a Bachelor of Sciences from the University of Miami's Honors Medical Program. 

Prior to her appointment at Edinburgh, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford and an Associate Professor in Global Health Politics and Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford.
