Careers beyond Academia - Dr Philip Starkey Lewis - Monday 18th September 2023 As part of Postdoc Appreciation Week, we have invited Dr. Philip Starkey Lewis, who is a co-founder at Resolution Therapeutics (RTx) and now works as a Principal Scientist, to speak about his experiences of working as an academic postdoc, commercialising research, leaving academia, joining a new company and helping make the company a success. Philip was a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre for Regenerative Medicine (2014-2020), in Professor Stuart Forbes group, where he identified and evaluated macrophage cell therapy candidates in acute and chronic liver disease models. This research contributed to the foundational knowledge and intellectual property that led to RTx being founded in 2020 following a £26.6m Series A financing supported by Syncona Ltd. RTx aims to discover, develop, and commercialise novel macrophage cell-based therapy products for clinical use to treat chronic liver disease. Previously, Philip completed his PhD in pharmacology at the Centre for Drug Safety Science (CDSS, University of Liverpool, 2013) where his research focused on biomarker discovery/development in pre-clinical models of drug-induced liver injury (DILI). Please join the talk to find out more and ask Philip questions about his career.
