On the 24th of May, the University/British Heart Foundation Centre for Cardiovascular Sciences will be hosting a Society for Endocrinology seminar from Professor Jeffrey Friedman of the Rockefeller Institute, New York. Leptin and the regulation of body weight' Time: 12pm - 1pm Venue: QMRI Lecture Theatre Professor Friedman's research has over the last two decades contributed immensely to our understanding of the mechanisms underlying body weight regulation, adipose tissue biology and metabolic diseases relating to obesity, with a most notable achievement being the identification of leptin. This visit and seminar is funded through grants from the Society for Endocrinology and the Robert's Fund. In order to maximise the use of Professor Friedman's considerable knowledge in all aspects of metabolism, we will be hosting a lunch and poster session on 24th May (1-5pm) with the opportunity for PhD students and post-doctoral researchers to present and discuss their research. Please contact either Kerry McInnes or Lizzy Cottrell if you would like to submit a poster title for consideration by Friday 29th of April. In addition to the institute seminar and poster session on Tuesday 24th May, there will be an opportunity for trainees (postdoctoral workers and PhD students) to meet and discuss their work and career opportunities in the US more generally with Professor Friedman on the morning of Wednesday May 25th, during a session hosted by the Little France Post-doctoral Society.
