College finalist represents University at international competition. Image PhD student, Christopher West, winner of both the University and College Finals of the 3 Minute Thesis competition with his presentation “Blood, sweat and ears”, is representing the University at the Universitas21 3 Minute Thesis competition, and needs your vote! This inaugural international event is an exciting new initiative for the Universitas21 network, which has already confirmed inclusion of researchers from 17 universities across nine countries and territories. Image International judging panel Each participating University has put forward one PhD student for the U21 final, to be judged by an international panel consisting of industry and academic professionals, as well as a People’s Choice award. The Grand Final will be a virtual event where video entries rather than live presentations will be judged. Christopher was one of nine finalists from around the University who had to sum up their thesis verbally - with no props or electronic media - in less than three minutes, using just one slide. A clinician by trade, Christopher is undertaking research into how to grow an ear using fat. Watch Christopher’s 3 Minute Thesis entry and vote Prizes Two prizes are available for the Grand Final: a bursary of $2500 for the winner to visit a Universitas 21 university of their choice to benefit their research or on-going career development, and a people’s choice prize of $300. Voting Voting for the People’s Choice award is live from 11th to 25th October. The winner will be announced on 29 October and the prize giving ceremony will be streamed live.
