This Public Lecture is being held at the end of a week of scientific meetings at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh to mark the 100th anniversary of Joseph Lister's death. Baron Lister was the 3rd Regius Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of Edinburgh and was the founder of modern antiseptic surgery. The lecture will be held in the Old Anatomy Lecture Theatre at Edinburgh Medical School and will highlight Lister's contribution to the development of modern surgery and current surgical practice.

A Lister exhibition will open at the museum of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in February 2012 and the Anatomy Museum at the Medical School will be open to the public on the day of the lecture. Doors open at 1.00pm.
