Careers Beyond Academia - Dr Catherine Heath Friday 21 April 2023 Cath completed a PhD in RNA localisation at the University of Sheffield in 2018. During this time, she ran a widening participation scheme and contributed to departmental teaching. Following completion of her thesis, Cath became a Teaching Assistant, where she supported undergraduate students and became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2019. Cath then moved to Edinburgh to start a postdoc focused on non-coding RNAs in metabolism, at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer. During the pandemic, Cath engaged more heavily with teaching and public engagement and when finishing her postdoc position in 2022, she moved into her current role as Education, Public Engagement and Training Manager at the Biochemical Society. Cath will chat about her transition away from research and how she utilised the transferable skills gained from her career to that point.
