Careers in Academia - Dr Kathryn Bowles (Wed 29th May at 12.30pm)

Kathryn Bowles started her lab at the University of Edinburgh in September 2022. She completed her PhD at Cardiff University, where she studied cell models of Huntington's disease.

She then carried out her postdoctoral work at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in New York, where she began her work on tau. Kathryn and her group are interested in the genetic and mechanistic biology underlying different tauopathies. They use iPSC models and organoids paired with transcriptomic approaches to further understand these biological mechanisms, with a focus on cellular stress, synaptic biology and neuronal-glial interactions.

Kathryn will give advice and tips on securing funding and how to navigate the early academic landscape!
