Careers in Academia - Dr Laura Glendinning (Tues 30th April at 12.30pm)

Laura's Group Work: The microorganisms that live in the gastrointestinal tracts of animals play vital roles in disease resistance, and in helping animals extract nutrients from their feed. My group researches the gut microbiota in livestock and poultry, with a particular focus on understanding the mechanisms of fibre fermentation in avian species.

Laura: I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2011 with a BSc hons in medical microbiology. After briefly working in industry I went on to do a masters by research at the University of Edinburgh, followed by a PhD at The Roslin Institute. I worked for several years as a postdoc at the Roslin Institute, then in 2023 I became a CMVM Chancellor's Fellow. This journey was not easy, with many rejections along the way, but I like to feel that for every rejection I became a better researcher and learned something new.
