May 2023: Careers Beyond Academia - Faye Watson Faye Watson is the current Public Engagement with Research Manager for the CMVM. In this role she leads on the strategic directions for engagement across the college to build, embed and enhance PEwR participation. Prior to this she was Engagement and Communications Coordinator at the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research where she lead on a programme of projects and activities as well as managing crisis communications during the COVID-19 pandemic (www.cvr-engagement.co.uk). Before moving to Scotland she worked as Public Engagement and Science Communication Officer at the UCL Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging supporting on the delivery of a programme of engagement and involvement activities raising the voice of people with neurological and psychiatric conditions in research. Before joining the world of public engagement, Faye was undertaking a PhD in plant biochemistry at Cardiff University where she had also undertaken her masters and undergraduate degrees. However, due to issues surrounding research culture (she is very open to talking about it), she decided to leave and pursue a different career.
