He then returned to UCL to complete a PhD and finally joined the University of Edinburgh (UoE) in the Medical Microbiology Department. In 1992, Sebastian became Professor of Microbial Chemotherapy and then head of the Department. He is also a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. While at UoE, Sebastian’s lab attracted students from all over the world. Even now, the network remains strong, with many ex-students still in touch and networking at conferences. Sebastian still supports, influences and advocates for many that were part of his lab and encourages collaborations on various projects.
