Headshot of Adam Blyth

Entering medicine as a mature student through the SWAP Access to Medicine route, Adam has consistently demonstrated dedication not just to his own learning, but to the growth and wellbeing of those around him.

He has made exceptional use of clinical placements, actively seeking out hands-on experiences. Alongside his studies, Adam has worked as a scribe and healthcare support worker on the wards, gaining valuable experience. His initiative and maturity have shaped a practical, patient-centred approach that enhances every clinical setting he enters.

As a leader within the Surgical Society, Adam has helped organise and deliver surgical skills teaching often drawing on his own experience . He also supervised fellow medical students during their intercalated honours year, offering both academic and pastoral support.

Adam also brings real-world emergency care experience, having worked as a lifeguard and event medic. These experiences reflect not only clinical competence but calm under pressure and a strong sense of service.

He has also been a longstanding ambassador for the medical school, helping prospective and current students feel welcomed, informed, and supported throughout their journeys. Every year, he makes time to visit his former college to speak to students hoping to study medicine.

Adam contributes to a culture of collaboration, kindness, and high standards. His journey into medicine, practical skill-set, and commitment to peer-education make Adam a powerful example of what Edinburgh Medical School stands for.
