Maria Jadwiga Długołęcka-Graham, a public health medical expert, strengthened academic and cultural ties between Poland and Scotland via her life's work. She combined clinical practice, scholarly endeavours, and a strong commitment to medical education while attending Edinburgh Medical School. 

In 1949, she was born in Edinburgh. As the long-time head of the Polish School of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, she oversaw collaborations and scholarships that made it possible for generations of Polish academics and students to study and work in Scotland. 

Her colleagues saw her as a person of extraordinary integrity, compassion, and faith, and her commitment left a lasting legacy in both countries. She received numerous honorary doctorates, an MBE, and state decorations from Poland.
