After pursuing his medical school education at Nottingham Medical School, Professor Baljean Dhillon continued his ophthalmology studies at  Plymouth, London, Singapore, and Edinburgh universities. Baljean has devoted three and a half decades to the University of Edinburgh and published over 400 clinical research articles, expanding the field of ophthalmology and changing the way we see and study eyes, along with involvement in neurological, mental, and cognitive health.

Baljean’s research focuses most on cataract surgery, retinal degradation and ocular diseases. Furthermore, it is his most recent integration of public voices into the research that shows a continued gaze towards the future and the continued evolution of the ophthalmological field.

Now both a professor and the NES Chair of Clinical Ophthalmology, Balijean continues to hold the door open for the new generation of researchers by inspiring masters students in the Clinical Ophthalmology program to continue their studies and research.
