He spent most of the next two decades working with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in various areas of conflict across the globe, including Africa, Asia and the Middle East. In 2024, he acted as hospital director setting up MSF's modular paediatric hospital in central Gaza. His experience with both human and natural disasters led Sakib to appreciate the connection between the environment and health. In between trips, he completed his GP training and a PhD in neglected tropical diseases. He now works in planetary health, looking at the intersection between health and deforestation. Sakib is a visiting professor at the Institute of Tropical Medicine at Nagasaki University, and an honorary associate professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
