Originally from Mumbles in Wales, Jamie has worked for the University of Edinburgh for over 30 years.
 
A professor specialising in experimental anatomy, Jamie’s main research interest is in the mechanisms by which cells organise themselves into tissues, exploring how we might use our knowledge of this to improve medical care.
 
He is one of the best-loved teachers on the MBChB medicine programme and co-designed the new curriculum.
 
A EUSA teaching award winner with a ‘secret life’ as a choreographer and teacher of jazz dance, students have described his lectures as “beautifully crafted” and “a joy to sit through”.
