Obtaining his MD degree in surgeon's errors and laparoscopic training from the University of Dundee, Michael then got his Master's degree in general surgery from the University of Edinburgh in 2021, where he is still an honorary lecturer. Michael continued his education by obtaining two additional postgraduate degrees: one in Health Professions Education from Maastricht University and another in Higher Education from the University of Dundee. Michael continues to use his passionate leadership style, academic contributions, and dedication to improve surgical training and workplace culture. Now a senior trainee in London, he continues to influence the surgical field with a push for research into diversity and surgeon wellbeing. After serving as the diversity, equity, and inclusion officer, Michael is now the director of education of the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT). He continues to work diligently to guarantee the highest level of training for himself and his future trainees by eliminating bullying and discrimination. Outside of his focus on improving the learning environment for surgical trainees, he is dedicated to lowering the cost of training to bring more diverse voices and experiences into a medical career.
