Dawn Livingstone is Senior Lecturer and Director of Teaching for Undergraduate Biomedical Sciences. Dawn, originally from the far north of Scotland, has built an impactful career in Edinburgh, committed to both education and robust research. Her academic journey began with a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology, followed by a PhD in Medical Sciences, both from the University of Edinburgh. Throughout her research career, Dawn has focused on the intricacies of steroid hormone signalling and its role in metabolism and body fat distribution.


In addition to her research, Dawn has a passion for teaching and mentoring. She plays a pivotal role in the lives of undergraduate biomedical students, especially as they navigate through honours years. Her dedication to enhancing the educational experiences of her students has been recognised with two teaching awards from the Edinburgh University Student Association (EUSA). Furthermore, Dawn takes pride in guiding new staff and helping them integrate into the professional community at the Edinburgh Medical School.


Her current role as Director of Teaching allows her to deepen her influence by improving programme quality and ensuring that teaching strategies are informed by cutting-edge research. This position also enables her to enhance connections within the educational structures of Edinburgh Medical School, contributing to an enriched learning environment for all students.
