A pioneering figure in the early history of psychotherapy in Edinburgh, Margaret began her career as a medical missionary in India. After marrying during World War I, she embraced a series of medical administrative roles in India before returning to the UK in 1929. It was then that her profound interest in psychotherapy led her to train at the Tavistock Clinic in London.

Upon her return to Edinburgh, she established a therapeutic practice that would become the cornerstone of her legacy. As a passionate advocate for family support, she founded several key institutions that have had lasting impacts on the community, including the Davidson Clinic, Wellspring, and the Salisbury Centre.

Her dedication to the mental health and wellbeing of her patients and her pioneering spirit in the medical community are commemorated by a statue in George Square gardens.
