Huzefah Hanif is a current medical student due to graduate in summer 2026. Huzefah is originally from Glasgow but has found Edinburgh to have provided an excellent backdrop for incredible life experiences which have shaped his years at university.

Throughout his studies Huzefah has been proud to be part of Edinburgh University Medics rugby club. He has served as social secretary, vice president and president between 2022 and 2025. During this time, Huzefah has been heavily involved in the organisation of multiple European rugby tours to destinations including Poland and Portugal, where the medics remain proudly undefeated on international soil.

Beyond rugby, Huzefah has organised national undergraduate conferences in orthopaedics and emergency medicine. Most recently, as president of the Emergency Medicine Society, he led a committee of six in delivering a teaching programme for over 120 medical students from years 1–6, covering topics including emergency anaesthetics, paediatrics, toxicology and trauma. He completed an intercalated BSc in Infectious Diseases in Year 3 of his studies.

Huzefah’s peers recall how he exemplifies leadership, inclusivity and resilience and how he has radically transformed the identity of Edinburgh University Medics RFC to reflect the values of diversity and belonging that should define the medical school community.

One colleague said: “He represents the values we aspire to uphold as future doctors: compassion, equity, courage and advocacy. Through his work in the club, he has created space for others to step into their own potential. That impact will last far beyond his tenure.”
