Ben Stutchfield

Ben is a liver transplant surgeon working at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. His specialist work also includes management of gallstones including laparoscopic cholecystectomy (keyhole removal of the gallbladder).

He completed a PhD in regenerative medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 2014 and continues to undertake research to improve patient outcomes.

Ben mentors students through research and clinical projects and is a reviewer for several specialist surgical journals. His students recall his combination of warmth, humility and clarity as a supervisor – someone who is genuinely interested and invested in their growth.
