Harry is professor of Genetic Epidemiology and Public Health at the Usher Institute, University of Edinburgh, as well as an honorary consultant in public health at NHS Lothian.

A world-leading academic and public health expert, he has contributed to the field of epidemiology and global health, but has also inspired generations of students, researchers and colleagues through his unwavering commitment to research, integrity and mentorship.

His most important contributions are in the control of childhood diseases in the economically developing world. He started the pneumonia research programme in MRC Gambia and then moved to WHO Geneva where he published the first estimates of the global burden of childhood pneumonia. He is a regular advisor to the World Health Organisation, where he has helped develop global clinical guidelines, action plans and training materials.
