Portrait of Carol Wollaston

Carol Wollaston is a former technical services manager in Edinburgh Medical School. She is originally from West Lothian. Following high school, Carol worked in various labs whilst completing a HNC in biology. Following that she completed a BA in business studies.

She joined the department of physiology as a research physician with Professor Iain Donaldson in 1988. Following a stint in the accounts department, Carol went on to become a laboratory manager in the department of biomedical sciences which was her ideal role, a combination of business and science.

During her many years at the University of Edinburgh, Carol was involved in many memorable moments including the clear up and aftermath of a major fire in the medical school extension (now the Chrystal MacMillan Building), moving the majority of Biomedical Sciences from the old medical school to the Hugh Robson Building, and helping with the clear out of SummerHall when the Dick Vet moved out.

Carol’s colleagues recall the decades of support she provided to multiple generations of scientists at every stage of their careers.
