Alison Munro has been a vital part of the University of Edinburgh since 2006, currently serving as the facility manager at Edinburgh Cancer Research's Host and Tumour Profiling Unit (HTPU) Microarray Services Facility.

Alison initially joined the University as research technician in the biomarker and clinical diagnostics group. She has been instrumental in conducting translational research and clinical trials, crucial for the development of future cancer treatments. In 2013, she transitioned to her current role, where she was pivotal in establishing the Host and Tumour Profiling Unit using advanced microarray technologies. Under her management, this facility became an independent service provider, enhancing its capabilities with the latest spatial transcriptomic and proteomic technologies.

Alison's leadership extended the facility's reach, supporting not just local research within the CRUK Scotland Centre and Institute of Genetics and Cancer but also facilitating collaborative projects globally with industry partners and academic groups across North America, Europe, and Australia. Her work has supported numerous high-impact research publications and successful funding applications, significantly contributing to University’s scientific research.

Alison's role in developing efficient collaboration and invoicing processes with Edinburgh Innovations has also streamlined operations, enhancing customer service and engagement. Her dedication and innovative management approach not only elevate her team’s research capabilities but also inspire and mentor the next generation in scientific research and facility management. Alison also dedicates time to public engagement, leading laboratory tours for patients, funding bodies and students.
