Isabel Noble

Isabel Noble was a consultant general physician at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, working and teaching with Edinburgh Medical School until her retirement in 1995. 

Isabel was one of the few female consultants at the Royal Infirmary during her time, a role in which she dedicated herself entirely to the welfare of her patients. Known for her professionalism and compassionate approach, Isabel often went beyond conventional care, focusing holistically on her patients’ needs. This included personal touches like purchasing a microwave for an elderly patient to facilitate their return home, demonstrating her commitment to their overall wellbeing.

Isabel was respected not only for her medical expertise but also for her kindness and empathy, qualities that left a lasting impression on both colleagues and medical students. She is remembered fondly by many as an inspirational figure who significantly influenced their careers and lives. Isabel passed away in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of gentle but profound impact on those she worked with, taught and cared for, embodying the spirit of a truly dedicated doctor who valued patient care above all.
