Head shot of Adriana Tavares

Adriana is a specialist in translational molecular imaging, with a focus on developing new imaging techniques and methods of analysis.

As a professor and head of the preclinical Positron Emission Tomography (PET) facility at the Queen's Medical Research Institute in Edinburgh, Adriana has made significant contributions to her field. Her research has led to the development of new PET radiotracers and novel methods of analysis, including network analysis, which has the potential to transform the way we think about disease.

Adriana has also played a key role in establishing a successful radiotracer development programme at the Edinburgh Medical School, covering areas such as cardiovascular, neurology, and immunology research and clinical care. Her work has also involved the development of new technologies, including body-on-chip platforms, which could reduce or replace animal research.

Notably, Adriana's efforts to host the Total Body PET conference in Edinburgh helped secure Scotland's first total-body scanner, which will facilitate future collaborations and accelerate drug development and diagnosis for patients.
