Rong is from Australia and graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical School in 2008 before completing his training at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Concord Repatriation General Hospital in Sydney.Following a six-month volunteer medical officer role in Papua New Guinea, Rong moved to Edinburgh for an interventional cardiology fellowship in 2017. He completed his PhD in cardiovascular sciences at the University of Edinburgh in 2020 with Professor David Newby and Professor Marc Dweck. Following work as a locum, Rong was appointed as consultant cardiologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. In his role, Rong performs percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) and transcatheter aortic valve Implantations (TAVI). Rong is very well thought of by students who he has helped and supported with their projects, providing ideas, positive feedback and enthusiasm. Despite his very busy job, students note his willingness to make time for them, answering questions and highlighting opportunities for them. He is noted as an excellent role model for students in clinic with him, treating patients with the highest standard of care while being an excellent colleague within the cardiology team.As well as teaching and training, he enjoys exploring the Highlands, both on foot and on two wheels.
