Bhanu is currently undertaking a specialised foundation program in southeast Scotland and is an honorary clinical fellow status with the University of Edinburgh. He graduated from Edinburgh Medical School in 2025 and is currently associated with the Usher Institute through his research mentor, Professor Harish Nair. 

Bhanu’s primary research focus is respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Throughout his time as a medical student, he demonstrated a consistent commitment to high-calibre research and has published several articles and presented numerous posters on his research, including a notable co-authored article in The Lancet. He has also had international research experiences, including a research summer fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Akron General and an elective placement at Columbia University in New York City.

Bhanu is noted by peers to be a natural leader who inspires those around him. While at Edinburgh Medical School, he received the Unsung Hero Award from the Edinburgh University Students' Association and won the Learn about ME medical student essay competition for his essay on ME/CFS. In addition to his research, Bhanu is dedicated to giving back to his community, having served as academic activities representative for the University of Edinburgh Students' Association and co-founded Diverse Unified Real Global Action, an NGO that aims to remove barriers to education and health for children in rural India.
