Solomon Ong

Solomon Ong Xi Xiang is a medical professional specialising in internal medicine and clinical research in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Originally from Malaysia, Solomon transferred to Edinburgh Medical School to complete his MBChB degree, graduating in 2021.

During his studies, Solomon launched a support and teaching programme specifically for transfer students to help them integrate into the clinical years effectively. He also established a mentorship network, providing both academic guidance and pastoral support, thus strengthening the community feel among international students. 

Beyond his student years, Solomon has continued to contribute to the Edinburgh Medical School community as an honorary clinical tutor. His commitment extends to the wider medical community through the Malaysia-Scotland Medical Partnership, which supports Malaysian students across Scottish medical schools. This initiative not only includes peer-led teaching sessions but also fosters a tight-knit community through social and academic events, easing the cultural and academic transition for many students.

Solomon's impact extends to the International Medical University (IMU) Alumni UK Chapter, which he founded to strengthen alumni networks and support educational pathways between Malaysia and the UK. His work ensures a smoother transition for students moving from pre-clinical stages in Malaysia to clinical training in Scotland, demonstrating his dedication to easing the journey for future medical professionals across continents.
