Sharron Ogle

Sharron is a senior lecturer and programme director for the MSc in Biodiversity, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health at Edinburgh Medical School. 

Her journey at the University of Edinburgh began in 1993 when she moved to Edinburgh to study medicine, though she eventually shifted her focus and graduated with an honours degree in medical microbiology. After spending a few years as a biology teacher, Sharron returned to the University of Edinburgh to pursue further studies, culminating in a PhD in veterinary science.

Sharron led the creation of the MSc programme in Biodiversity, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health in 2010, which was among the early online masters programmes. Sharron's primary focus has been to foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment, emphasising cross-disciplinary solutions to tackle complex global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss.

Her efforts have nurtured a strong sense of community amongst staff and students, contributing significantly to the programme's success and high student satisfaction. Her deep commitment to education and empowerment of students emphasises the vision of making a positive impact on the world. Sharron's personal journey from a first-generation university student to a senior academic reflects her dedication and resilience, having overcome self-doubt and challenges along the way. She continues to inspire and support students and colleagues, pushing for improvements in academic integrity and inclusivity.
