Will Wood is Professor of Tissue Regeneration and Repair in the Institute for Regeneration and Repair in Edinburgh Medical School.

Originally from Devon, Will moved to London for his studies at UCL where he completed undergraduate studies and his PhD. He then moved to Lisbon for a post-doc before returning to the UK to set up a lab at the University of Bath in 2006. In 2014, he moved his lab to the University of Bristol before moving it again to Edinburgh in 2018.

Will is a leading scientist with expertise in mentoring and developing the careers of junior researchers. His research focus is on immune cell migration during inflammation and infection.

Will’s commitment to supporting and guiding junior colleagues is recognised and applauded by his colleagues. He has been instrumental in helping numerous early-career researchers secure prestigious fellowships, including the Wellcome Trust Career Development Award, and has provided valuable guidance and support to those seeking postdoctoral fellowships.

As director of the Edinburgh Scientific Academic Track for the Institute of Regeneration and Repair, Will revamped the programme and organised multiple events for this cohort to come together, share experiences and their research, and network. This led to new scientific collaborations that would not exist without his efforts.

Will is also an ambassador for the university and sits on the Wellcome Trust Career Development Award interview panel and the Wellcome Trust India Alliance panel.
