What is Edinburgh Medical School 300?

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh was founded in 1726, making 2026 its 300th anniversary. While the timing of this significant anniversary coincides with challenges right across the higher education sector and NHS, it also provides many opportunities for reflection and change.

A broad range of colleagues from across the university and the wider community were invited from the outset to contribute to the planning for the anniversary. While discussions were far ranging, some consistent themes emerged.

Among them was the desire to be more inclusive, diverse and collaborative and to be honest about both the past and the way we work now. This anniversary was noted as a key opportunity to recognise and celebrate our community and to make transformational and meaningful change that will have an impact far beyond 2026.

Edinburgh Medical School 300 provides an opportunity to disrupt and transform the future vision for Edinburgh Medical School and to spearhead a major programme of activities, to build community, forge meaningful partnerships and create sustainable change.

We hope you join us on this journey.
