John was a student of Edinburgh Medical School, who embarked on his medical journey in 1938.

However, his studies were interrupted when he joined the army in 1940, serving in the Indian army and spending time in Kashmir and Iran during World War II.

After the war, John returned to university and graduated with an MBChB in 1949. Despite facing health challenges, including pulmonary TB and a heart valve problem, John persevered and eventually trained as a GP. He also completed a Masters in Public Health at the Usher Institute in 1965.

John's kindness, compassion, and dedication to his patients earned him a special place in the hearts of those he served as a GP in Oxgangs, Edinburgh. His remarkable life story is a testament to his strength and resilience, and he will always be remembered as a quiet, kind gentleman who made a lasting impact on those around him.
