Mohamed graduated with an MSc Science Communication and Public Engagement in 2016, the the first Egyptian to study for an academic degree in science communication.

He is now an award-winning science communicator and journalist, and a lecturer in science communication and artificial intelligence, recognised for leadership in advancing public engagement with science in the global south.

Returning to Egypt in 2016, at the  American University in Cairo, he led the country’s only dedicated project aiming to engage school students in underserved communities with science. The project had an impact on more than 10,000 students, changing their attitudes towards science and encouraging scientific studies and careers.

He also contributed to establishing the first Egyptian network for science communicators and journalists and was awarded the Mijbil Al-Mutua prize for young science communication professionals in the MENA in 2017. As a science journalist, he has published over 750 scientific articles, in publications such as Scientific American, SciDev.Net and Nature.

In 2018, he joined Médecins Sans Frontières Doctors Without Borders as Arabic editor, where he has translated and published many medical guides in Arabic language.

In 2023, he was elected vice-president of the PCST network, as the first Arab holding this position. Through this role, he works to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in science communication, bring global south perspectives into global science communication conversations.
