Grant Stewart is an academic kidney cancer surgeon whose work spans early detection, surgery and national policy. He has led international randomised trials, including SORCE, RAMPART and the first screening trial for kidney cancer, changing practice and informing UK and European guidelines. Grant is Clinical Director of the UK National Kidney Cancer Audit and clinical lead for the first NICE kidney cancer guideline. 

In Cambridge, he established the regional robotic kidney surgery programme and helped shape the £220 million Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital. He has over 260 peer‑reviewed papers and more than £58 million in research and trial funding. He leads one of the UK’s largest academic clinical training programmes and directs the Urological Malignancies Institute at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre.

Grant’s roots are in Edinburgh Medical School and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he trained on wards 7 and 8. He became Edinburgh’s first academic urologist in more than 20 years, founded the SCOTRRCC research collaborative, and continues to mentor Edinburgh colleagues and support locally-led clinical trials.
