Roisin Murphy

Roisin Murphy is a student on the HCP-Med programme for healthcare professionals at Edinburgh Medical School. Originally from Glasgow, Roisin combines her studies with part-time work as an optometrist, now working toward her long-held dream of becoming a doctor. Roisin joined the HCP-Med programme in 2024.

Roisin’s journey to medicine has been marked by both personal and professional challenges. She represents students from her year on the Staff and Student Liaison Council, advocating for a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Tragically, in January 2025, Roisin faced profound personal loss when her husband, Mark, passed away after a battle with cancer. This event deeply impacted her, driving her to raise over £8,000 for Maggie’s Centres, which support those affected by cancer.

Balancing motherhood, work and her studies, Roisin’s experiences have enriched her empathy and commitment to medicine. As she progresses towards her goal of becoming a compassionate and skilled doctor, Roisin's story exemplifies perseverance and dedication.
