David Kluth

David is an academic leader in medical education, currently serving as Head of Edinburgh Medical School, where he is guiding the development of its teaching and structure. In this role, he focuses on strengthening the school’s programmes in medicine and biomedical sciences while building on its long-standing history.

David has taken on the position at a time of change, working to bring together different parts of the school and improve how education is delivered. He aims to ensure that students are well prepared for the challenges of modern healthcare and scientific research. His approach combines respect for the school’s past with a clear focus on future needs, including collaboration across the wider University.

He describes the role as “a singular opportunity to lead the school into a new era”, highlighting his commitment to working with both staff and students.

David has held many roles at Edinburgh Medical School, including senior lecturer in nephrology and chair of medical education at the Centre for Inflammation research. He was an awarded an OBE in 2022 for services to medical education.
